Hi all, I was wondering if anyone saw this production by Filter - it was commissioned for the Complete Works Festival, but has been revived several times since and seems to be about to come back to The Rose, Kingston for a very short run ( www.rosetheatrekingston.org/whats-on/twelfth-night ). At 90 minutes it looks a bit like it was a forerunner of the Young Person's Shakespeare - which I love. So any opinions? And more importantly, is it worth me going to? Lorannah

I saw it and though it was brilliant. As I knew the story and the characters so well it was easy to follow. But as only 5 actors played all the characters I can imagine if you didn't get know it so well it might have got a bit confusing.
I saw it at the Theatre Royal in Bath. The promo shows the 1 character who wears traditional dress, and as it's in collaboration with the RSC, had their logo on it.
Consequently, lots of the local 'blue rinse' brigade turned up expecting a traditional performance. It couldn't be any further from the truth. (But those who I heard talking on the way out actualy enjoyed it too)
I don't want to say too much as it'll give away spoilers but I would encourage anyone to go.

Excellent, thank you - shall definitely have to give it a go. Thought it looked interesting and I do love Twelth Night. I know what you mean by the blue rinse brigade, though I'm often abashed and surprised at what they love. I think open mindedness is becoming universal. I saw a very strange Korean Romeo and Juliet this week which had lots of older people who seemed to like it. And at Oxygen last Sunday one of the most enthusiastic audience members must have been in her 80s - not necessarily what you'd expect at an evening of Russian theatre and bboying. I just hope I'm still as vivacious in years to come. Lorannah

I saw the revival of this at the Tricycle in May, and I was utterly delighted with it. Twelfth Night is my favourite comedy and Viola my favourite character and I adored what they do with her in this. The text is, admittedly, very stripped down, but it's raucous, and musical, and interactive, and wonderful.
Re: the blue rinse brigade - I refer to a particularly noxious sub-group of them as the Old Vic Old Ladies. I'm not entirely sure why they seem to complain more vocally at that particular theatre, but high/lowlights have included loud tutting during a gay kiss in Six Degrees of Separation, and complaining during the interval that the Bridge Project AYLI is supposed to be a comedy.

It sounds right up my street, now just need to wait for my first pay packet so I can buy tickets. Kingston reminds me a bit of Stratford too, so that's another bonus.

Haha yes, but don't forget the late teens/early twenties girl sitting next to me in the front row of Six Degrees who was eating chips & curry sauce out of a takeaway carton!

I was annoyed enough when someone brought in a take out pizza and I was just at a cinema. Was also very annoyed when someone brought out a phone to check the time during Winter's Tale at the Courtyard this week. I can't understand how people don't realise how bright and distracting those stupid little lights are.
