Apologies if there is already a thread on this that I missed... I tend to go to matinees so that I don't need to stay the night in Stratford but if I'm doing three shows on 2nd April as is my current plan I think I'll have to! I've heard a few suggestions, but just wondering if any of you have any advice about places that are nice but not too expensive, if such a combination exists?

Whups, sorry for the delay. Guess this is my area of expertise. There are 80+ hotels/B&Bs in Stratford - so plenty of choice. I tend to look at the B&Bs because I like them. Tripadvisor is a good place to check out how good they are. You can tend to pick up cheap deals at most of the hotels at some point or another if you keep your eyes open. My tip at the moment would be to go for the Superbreaks mystery hotel deal. If you go to www.superbreak.com and search for Stratford-Upon-Avon. you should get a mystery hotel offered for a cheap rate - there's some variation but most nights seem to be £35 for two people including breakfast. The description of the hotel you should get is this: "We cannot tell you the name of the hotel until booking confirmation but you are guaranteed to be booking one of the best selling 4* hotels. Situated in the heart of this historic town, on the banks of the River Avon and within 5 acres of attractive landscaped grounds, The hotel is perfect for discovering Shakespeare’s birthplace. Enjoy the hotel’s excellent facilities including a lounge and bar, a Restaurant and health and fitness club. This completely non-smoking hotel is a 5 minute walk to the Royal Shakespeare and Court Yards Theatres, 2 minutes walk to the town centre and a short drive from the M40 and Birmingham International Airport."That's the Holiday Inn at the bottom of Bridge Street, dead close to town, with plenty of parking available (though there is a £5 charge for the entire stay - so the longer you stay the better the deal on car parking). The rate is non-refundable, so only book if you're certain you're coming. Hope that helps.

Doesn't look like I'll be able to do the 2nd April trip I was planning (though hadn't booked thankfully) anyway so not quite as urgent as I thought, but thanks for very much for the advice, I'll bear that in mind next time.
Never been to the Holiday Inn but parked there many times, as one of my most frequent theatre-going companions is a member of the chain and so gets cheap or possibly free parking there.
