I'm pitching to direct this on Wednesday - and just wanted to put out a couple of thoughts. Firstly, do Theseus/Hippolyta/Egeus strike as being potentially Georgian? I was thinking yes, predominantly as arranges marriages were rife in the area and I didn't want them entirely modern. The mechanicals I'm placing in modern casuals - to keep costs down for one but also to express that they are the sort of useless amateur company we all secretly love to laugh at! The lovers I sort of wanted to be combining elements of the two - any ideas how that could be done? The idea being they want to get away from the nobility of their blood, and hence towards the modern casuals of the mechanicals.. Fairies, I'm currently picturing some sort of multi-layers black/blue costume, possibly with costumed lighting. Masks? This is the least well thought out of the lot! The production is outside - so have to try to consider that in terms of not having cast wear next to nothing! Music wise - I was thinking of reintroducing Mandelssohn's Dream, as it was obviously written with the play in mind yet gets very few airings with the play these days. Any thoughts there?

For the lovers you couldy try things like dressing the girl in trousers instead of a dress, but still a bit more posh than the casuals of the mechanics.

Yeah - that would have been better than the garble I came out with in the pitch! Either way - they've gone with someone else and pitching Macbeth anyway
