I'm all full of Shakespeare/RSC joy at the moment after seeing Romeo and Juliet at the Roundhouse on Tuesday, so it's well over time for
Day #2: Your favourite character
Hmmm.... sort of an interesting one to choose, because obviously a lot of the best characters fit into the hero/villain/clown options, so I'll talk about them later. Which leaves the odds and sods:
I'm tempted to say Benvolio, who fits into my favouritism for everyman characters. But in the end I've decided to pick Sebastian from Twelfth Night. He might not appear much in the play - but in the brief glimpses we see of him we find out that he's spent several weeks/months shacked up with a gay pirate, strolls into town, gets into several fights, all of which he wins and marries a woman he's never met before.
Nothing bothers him, nothing gets in his way and nothing particularly seems to surprise him - he's either constantly drunk or an utter rogue - and I sort of love him for it.
